Hooray for Hollywood

volunteer_weekend We took the boys to the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood today, for the premiere of Ratatouille. The El Capitan is an amazing place, and Pixar produces some amazing animation.
The boys call Tim Allen, 'that guy from 'The Santa Claus.'

MommyCuts

Kari began a new adventure in life today. She entered into the land of Mom=Hair Stylist. This is in addition to her regularly appearing roles of maid, cook, and chauffeur. Colin was thrilled with the cut, and now joins our dog Zilla to make up Kari's current client list.

Canvas-JC Penney $3.98

A proud day at the Carter house. Colin officially received his green belt. Kari was also donned her orange belt. Colin sparred for the second time. He really enjoys that, in spite of the fact that he looks like a member of Devo. And in case you are wondering,"canvas-JC Penney $3.98" is from "The Karate Kid." It is Mr. Miyagi's response about what type of belt he has.

We had belt testing today at the Black Belt Academy in Simi Valley. Kari and Colin have now moved up! Kari broke a board with her forearm. Colin broke a board with his hand. I managed NOT to break anything, while taking a few pictures. Click here to email Kari congrats!

Pictures

One year ago today, I was midway through my 36-hour drive from Ohio to California. I had in my mind many pictures for the upcoming year. Pictures for family, work, friends. Many of those pictures have developed and I celebrate that.  Realistically, some have not developed.  I need to learn from that, and continually take new pictures.

Life According To A 4 Year Old

Camden: "I wish I was a DS."

Me: "Why?"

Camden: "Doesn't everyone?"

Me: "Good talk, son."

We took the boys to get their four and seven year old pictures today. We went to the Four Seasons Garden in Westlake. I am reminded today that Kari and I are blessed with these two little miracles.

Eleven years ago today, Kari and I were married. How is it we feel the same on the inside, but there is someone different staring at us in the mirror? And who are these children calling us Mommy and Daddy?

Our entire creative arts team went to Chicago this week for the Willow Creek arts conference. One of my highlights was seeing Ginghamsburg alum's Fran Wyatt and Efrem Smith. Both were serving in the incredible ways God has gifted them. Fran was on the drums for a conference set. Efrem was a panelist for a very tricky general session. Great to see these guys still serving, and still passionate.

Graduation

Colin graduated from Kindergarten today. He performed about 7 songs and then got his diploma. Check out the "gown”, it is actually a short-sleeved daddy shirt.

Time

volunteer_weekend Colin lost his front top tooth today. It seems he immediately looked older. I've always heard that time stops for no one. Now I see through my kids, that it actually is gaining speed. I can't stop it, I have to make the most of it.

Mom Rocks!

Kari is a room mom for Colin's Kindergarten class. She and Camden helped out on today's field trip. They went on scavenger hunt around the city of Simi Valley using public transportation. Kari spent about 3 hours on a bus with 17 six year olds. Where is the medal I ask?

Surf, Sand, Suits

volunteer_weekend
Some friends of ours took us surfing today. Look at the picture again. Do you see anything strange? No, the wetsuit i'm wearing isn't the ugliest you have ever seen. Yes, it is on inside out. I guess you can't take the midwest out of the boy after all. Once everything was righted, we had a blast, dude.
